7 Ways To Make Camping Meals Even More Delicious

Share it

One of the best things about camping is that it gives you the opportunity to enjoy meals in the great outdoors. But, just because you’re roughing it, doesn’t mean that your meals have to be! With a little bit of planning, you can enjoy delicious, gourmet-style camp meals that will make your camping trip even more enjoyable.

Here are 7 tips to help you make the most delicious camp meals ever:

1. Plan Ahead:

Make a list of all the ingredients you’ll need for your campfire meals. Before you head out on your camping trip, be sure to sit down and make a list of all the ingredients you’ll need for your campfire meals. This way, you can be sure to pack everything you need and won’t be left scrambling to find something when you’re already at the campsite.

Some things to consider include what breakfast, lunch, and dinner you’ll be eating, as well as any snacks you might want. And don’t forget to include any condiments or other items you’ll need to prepare your food. By taking the time to plan, you can relax and enjoy your trip knowing that you have everything you need to make great campfire meals.

2. Prepping Your Food:

The key to delicious camping meals is to plan and make sure that you have all the ingredients that you will need to make your meals. Before you go, take the time to make a list of all the ingredients that you will need and make a point to pre-cook any items that you can.

For example, pre-cooking rice, pasta, and beans will dramatically reduce the amount of cooking time needed at the campsite. Baked goods are also easy to pre-make and are good for breakfast and snacks.

Another way to best prepare for your camp meals is to think about how the food will be cooked. For instance, if you plan to use a stovetop, you will want to bring along non-perishable items that can be cooked on your stovetop.

Likewise, if you plan to cook over a campfire, you will want to bring items that can easily be cooked in a pot or foil packet. Having a plan in place ahead of time makes mealtime much easier and more enjoyable.

3. Spices and Seasonings:

Part of what makes meals taste gourmet is the use of special spices and seasonings. While camping, you may not have a full spice rack available to you; however, you can easily bring along a few of your favorites. Invest in small bottles or jars, fill them with your favorite seasonings, and make sure they are accessible.

Popular seasonings like chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning will turn even the simplest meals into gourmet-style camp meals. Don’t forget about condiments, too! Bring along small bottles of ketchup and mustard to add to burgers and hot dogs. Herbs are a wonderful way to add flavor to your meals when you’re camping.

If you have some fresh herbs growing in your garden, clip a few sprigs and place them in zip-top, reusable bags. Just be sure to keep them chilled in the cooler until you’re ready to add them to your meals. Alternatively, you can bring along some dried herbs for your recipes as well.

4. Kick Things up a Notch with Some Fire:

One way to add a unique flavor and flair to your camping meals is to cook them over a campfire. Grilling and roasting vegetables, burgers, and hot dogs over a fire is a popular way to enjoy a tasty meal while camping.

Be sure to bring along the necessary items such as long-handled forks, skewers, and tongs. And don’t forget aluminum foil packets which are great for cooking potatoes and veggies right on the fire.

Campfire pies are an easy way to enjoy some yummy comfort food while camping. To make these pies, roll out frozen biscuit dough and cut it into small circles. Grease a foil-lined pan, place the circles on the bottom of the pan, add whatever toppings you like (meat, vegetables, and cheese are popular choices), cover with the remaining circles of dough, and bake on the campfire. The result: delicious fire-baked personal pizzas!

5. Choose the Right Cookware:

When it comes to cooking camp meals, you need to choose the right cookware. Invest in small cookware items such as a few pots and pans that are large enough to accommodate multiple meals. It’s best to choose pieces that are non-stick to avoid a difficult cleanup. Additionally, make sure you have enough utensils on hand, such as spatulas, spoons, and tongs.

Having a camping stove is also advantageous as it will allow you to cook even faster and more efficiently. Invest in a stove that is environmentally friendly and designed for camping – this will give you the best results.

6. Regional Specialties:

Make your camp meals even more delicious by adding regional ingredients. For example, if you’re camping in the Southwest, pack some jalapenos, cilantro, and green chiles. For the Northwest, try some smoked salmon and/or wild mushrooms.

The possibilities are endless – taking the time to research Regional specialties can add an extra level of flavor and enjoyment to your camp meals. You don’t have to limit yourself to only regional ingredients, either – use what you can to your advantage.

If the local store or farmer’s market has fresh produce and homemade goodies available, take advantage of those items and add them to your camp meals.

7. Leftovers:

Don’t forget to plan for leftovers! Leftovers are a key part of camp meals since you’re usually eating from one pot.

Soups and chili are great for camp meals since they can be cooked once and enjoyed multiple times throughout the trip – just make sure you reheat them properly for safety. You can also incorporate leftovers into your meal planning. For example, roast some chicken before you go, use it in one meal, then use the leftovers in another. Or make a meal that uses leftovers as an ingredient, such as tacos or quesadillas.

To Wrap Things Up:

Whether you’re an experienced camper or a beginner, with a bit of planning, your meals can be full of delicious, gourmet-style flavors. Take the time to plan and make a list of the ingredients you need, pre-cook meals as much as possible, bring along all the spices and seasonings you will need, use the fire to add flavor, choose the right cookware, incorporate regional specialties, and use leftovers in multiple meals. And don’t forget to bring along some marshmallows for roasting over the fire!

With these tips, you’ll be well on your way to enjoying delicious, gourmet-style camp meals that will make your camping trip even more enjoyable.
