  • Total Time: 5 hours 30 minutes

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1215 lb Bone in Ham
  • 2 C Brown Sugar
  • 2 C Whisky, use your favorite, I use Jack Daniels or Crown

Instructions

  1. In a medium sauce pan combine the brown sugar and whisky, stir until sugar dissolves.
  2. Cook on medium heat, stirring occasionally for 20-25 mins, or until the alcohol smell cooks out.  Keep an eye on it because as it boils it can tend to overflow the pot.
  3. While that is cooking, prepare the ham by taking it out of the packaging and washing it with cold water.
  4. Pat dry with a paper towel and place it into a roasting pan.
  5. When the glaze is ready, pour it over the ham.
  6. When you are ready to cook it, pre-heat the oven to 325°F.
  7. Cover the ham with foil and place it on the bottom rack of the oven.
  8. Cook for 20 minutes per pound, so for a 15lb ham cook for 5 hours or until the internal temperature reaches 140°F when inserted in the thickest part of the ham.
  9. PRO TIP:  Baste the ham EVERY 30 minutes, this keeps the ham nice and tender.
  10. PRO TIP #2: To get an extra crispness on the outer layer, turn the oven to boil and allow to boil uncovered for 2 minutes.  Be sure to watch this so it does not burn the ham.
  11. Remove from oven and ENJOY every bite!
