Ingredients
Scale
- 3 C Warm Water
- 1 Tbsp Dry Active Yeast
- 1/2 C Butter, softened
- 2 Lg Eggs
- 1/2 C Sugar
- 1/2 C Dry Milk
- 1/2 C Potato Flakes
- 1 Tbsp Salt
- 5–6 C All-Purpose Flour
- 2 Tbsp Canola oil (or another neutral oil)
Instructions
- If you have a dough mixer, like a Bosch mixer use that, otherwise use your clean hands to do the mixing.
- In a large bowl or Bosch/bread mixer, combine the warm water and yeast, let sit for 2 minutes.
- Then in order add, butter, sugar, powdered milk, potato flakes, 3 C flour, eggs, and salt. (Add the salt on top of the flour)
- Mix until completely combined, about 5 minutes.
- Add a half of cup of flour at a time, mixing between additions, until dough pulls away from the sides of the bowl. Mix for another 5 minutes. When finished dough will be slightly sticky.
- In a large mixing bowl coat the bottom and sides with the oil.
- Remove the dough from the mixing bowl and add it to the oiled bowl.
- Cover with a clean towel and let raise for an hour or until doubles in size.
- In a medium saucepan, fill with canola oil about an inch deep and turn stovetop on to medium heat.
- Wait until the oil heats up.
- Take a tennis ball sized piece of dough and using your hands, flatten the dough to less than a half of an inch and slowly place that in the heated oil.
- Cook two or three at a time, depending on the size of your pan. You will want to keep 2” between each piece of dough.
- Cook for about 4 minutes each side until golden brown.
- Remove from oil and place on a paper towel to cool.
- Top with powdered sugar, honey, cinnamon sugar or chili beans and cheese and ENJOY!
Notes
Pro Tip: If water is too cold the yeast will not activate or if the water is too hot it will kill the yeast.
Life Changing moment for me is when I got a Bosch mixer to mix my dough instead of using my hands. It takes so much less time and you get a more uniform dough.
