Moist Yellow Cake Recipe with Delicious Chocolate Frosting

- 1 C Melted Butter
- 2 C Sugar
- 4 Eggs, room temperature
- 1 TBSP Vanilla
- 1 C Buttermilk
- 1 tsp Yellow Food Coloring, (optional)
- 2 1/2 C Flour
- 2 TBSP Corn Starch
- 1 tsp Baking Soda
- 1 tsp Baking Powder
- 1 tsp Salt
Chocolate Cream Cheese Frosting
- 1 – 8oz Package of Philadelphia Cream Cheese, at room temperature
- 6 TBSP Salted Butter, at room temperature
- 2 tsp Vanilla
- 2 C Powdered Sugar, sifted
- 1/3 C Hershey’s Cocoa Powder, sifted
- Pinch of salt
- If needed, add 1 TBSP of cream or milk to the right consistency
Instructions
- Pre-heat oven to 350°F but then turn down to 325°F right before baking.
- Cream together butter and sugar on high for 3 minutes until light and fluffy.
- Add one egg at a time and mix between additions.
- In a separate bowl combine vanilla, buttermilk and food coloring and set aside
- In a medium bowl sift the flour, corn starch, baking soda, baking powder, and salt, then set aside.
- Alternate adding the flour mixture and buttermilk mixture, mixing between each addition. Start and end with the flour.
- Grease and dust three 9” cake pans and divide the batter evenly between the two.
- Bake at 325°F for 30-40 minutes or until tooth pick comes out clean. DO NOT over bake.
- If you choose to do cupcakes, bake at the same temperature for 18 – 20 minutes. Start checking them at about 18 minutes.
For The Frosting
- Cream together cream cheese, butter, vanilla and salt.
- Slowly add the sifted powdered sugar and cocoa powder until combined.
- If you would like a thinner frosting, add 1 tbsp of milk at a time until you get the right consistency. If you would like it thicker add additional powdered sugar.
